MREs have been in development for two decades now. Over the course of time, there have been a myriad of changes to their packaging and contents. Here, you’ll find an extensive look at the full history of MREs, complete with photo galleries wherever possible.

If you’re only learning about the subject for the first time, MRE stands for “meal, ready to eat”. They were created as well-balanced food rations for soldiers that can be quickly and conveniently consumed. Entrees, side dishes, instant drink mixes, plastic utensils, heating pouches, and snacks such as crackers and peanut butter are among the most commonly included items. All of the food contained within can even be eaten cold if need be. It only gets more interesting from there, so feel free to stick around as we take an even closer look!
